At St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore, the Departments of Chemistry, Botany and Biotechnology, funded under the DBT Star College scheme, have jointly initiated a credit course for undergraduates students on Research Based Learning. The course will introduce students to accessing and reading scientific literature, writing scientific review articles and research proposals, research based learning techniques and includes hands-on experiments involving all three departments. The aim of the program is to introduce undergraduate students to research that is interdisciplinary in nature and to improve student engagement in the learning process. We also hope that this course will serve as a pilot intitative that will enable the use of research based pedagogical techniques on a larger scale in our undergraduate science curriculum.
